Young children often use pretend storylines to imagine something that could happen in real life. As educators, we can leverage on our children’s imagination to stimulate their interest in Chinese, a strategy that has been well-received by young children. This involves the teacher selecting a story, making props, asking questions and prompting for answers from the children. By using everyday events, children can better engage with their imaginary stories and play an active role within the story using enriching and interesting props. This enables children to both listen attentively and narrate the story. This interactive engagement effectively stimulates their interest in the learning of Chinese.
